Dear Hannah,
I am a missionary on a journey to powerful purpose ... with a charge to help others get there, too.
That pathway is paved with ministry, entrepreneurship, stewardship, litercy, numeracy, language, self-expression, self-identity, and analysis / synthesis.
This journey has given birth to a dream ... that I will use #StandupStorytelling (oration, rap, singing, spoken word, and teaching) to bring messages of hope, healing, and change ... to small-group audiences that embrace mentoring, mediation, and problem solving.
I have to finance my dream.
Finance is the management of money and other resources.
I do not have a lot of money.
I do have a lot of resources.

Good morning, good people.
Let me show you something ...
I am a missionary on a journey to powerful purpose ... with a charge to help others get there, too.
That pathway is paved with ministry, entrepreneurship, stewardship, literacy, numeracy, language, self-expression, self-identity, and analysis / synthesis.
My primary resources are information and tools ...
... tools that I treat like toys ...
... what I mean is I learn how to create, use, and refine these tools in powerful ways ...
... first by playing with them ...
... then by using them to solve problems ...
... then by documenting my work ... the documentation synthesizes and organizes the solution.
Let me show you something ...

Customized spreadsheets are powerful information tools.
This workbook distills years of research and analysis into a series of one-page reports that help me "follow the money" so I can "find the money".
Now all money ain't good money ...
... so this journey has led to a lot of "no's" ...
... some of these "no's" wasted my time (via unsuccessful applications that I could not republish), but most save time ...
... via blessed "crooked path" that might help me learn, heal, grow, find a better way, then share WETLL ...
... here are a few ...
... I now know to not spend $10 of my time to raise $5 ...
... I now know that complicated, convoluted application processes predict complicated, convoluted relationships with funders ...
... I now know to submit proposals that allow me to continue projects that I have been able to execute on my own (so that I am not dependent on the grant and grantor ... and so that I do not "bite off more than I can chew" ... underpromise, then overdeliver) ...
... I now know that I only submit applications that allow me to refine stories that I can republish ...
... this way, I win even when I lose because I produce content ... which I can reuse in a number of powerful ways that let me tell my own stories (like this one) ...
... enough of all that, let's describe the tool ...

Conclusion
----------
This dream is all I have.
But it's all I need.
My approach to financing it reminds me that my real wealth is knowledge.
You invest knowledge wealth by sowing it into others ... then growing new knowledge and partnerships.
This is how you make dreams manifest.
Selah.
About Derrick Brown (Standup Storyteller)
I am Keisha's husband, and Hannah's father.
I am a “standup storyteller.”
I fuse rap, spoken word (poetry), oration (traditional public speaking), singing, and teaching into messages of hope, healing, and change that I write, direct, and produce to help people who help people.
Everything must change - and stay changED.
Tradition begins and ends with change.
Change begins with me and the renewing of my mind ... then continues through efforts to effect small-group discipleship (equipping others to equip others) with audiences that respect and embrace mentoring, mediation, and problem solving as tools of change.
I am the product of my mentoring relationships, peacemaking (and peacekeeping), and problem-solving ability.
My education began when I finished school.
After school, I enrolled in a lifelong curriculum that includes classes in ministry, entrepreneurship, stewardship, literacy, numeracy, language, self-identity, self-expression, and analysis / synthesis.
My projects execute a ministry that has evolved from wisdom earned through lessons learned.
I want to share this wisdom to build teams of "triple threat" fellows - mentors, mediators, and problem solvers.
We will collaborate in simple, powerful ways that allow us to help people who help people.
I now know that power is work done efficiently (with wise and skillful use of resources, interests, communication, and expertise).
