Dear Hannah,
We are all messengers for different audiences.
Sometimes your message will not find its audience ...
... until you learn how to speak your peace.
Say what you have to say ...
... but tell your truth with grace.
Love,
Daddy

"LEarning (Messenger (Speak Your Peace))"
By Derrick Brown
11-9-2017
[begin intro]
we are all messengers
for different audiences.
sometimes your message
will not find its audience
until you learn how
to speak your peace ...
i'm sayin' ... say
what you have to say
but tell your
truth with grace
... listen ...
[VERSE 1]
got a hair trigger
i ain't hard to figure
ready to deliver
verbal judo shiver
but my voice is
one of my choices
issa thin line
I think I de-fine
as "gotta share, but ..."
"can't make nobody care ..."

'yet and still it's true
world is waiting 2
what u gon do boo boo?
do what u gotta do
exit the phone booth
go head and tell your truth
do your super sleuth
with a l'il couth
some will hear with fear
and may not understand
some will tune you out
"ain't tryin 2 hear this, man"
some will blow you off
call you a crazy man
they cannot see you
indivisible man
some will hear the call
then wanna hear the plan
now to those folks ...
[Chorus / Hook]
... you are The Messenger
... now tell 'em ...
[VERSE 2]
that the race ain't won
till the race is run
by my daughter's son
each generation
gotta lose the blame
get past the shame
ignore the fame
ignore acclaim
respect your name
avoid the lame
improve your aim
ignite your flame
build your frame
work your game
stake your claim
expect the same
from minds that meet
move their feet
hit the street
remove the sheet
separate
chaff from wheat
ideas concrete
plans discreet
then compete
rinse and repeat
snow or sleet
rain or heat
conquer conceit
conquer defeat
don't win - don't cheat
don't work - don't eat
[Chorus / Hook]
... that message was
for the home team
... now we gotta take
this show on the road ...
[VERSE 3]
(beat changes ...)
In the last year, I have ventured
beyond my comfort zone - and have
been reintroduced to myself ...
I have harnessed and cultivated
talents that I have always had,
and have learned to use them in
new, creative, powerful ways.
Lots of folks know little about
my hopes and dreams, or my REAL
talents.
I often feel trapped in the
temple of their familiar.
They see me how they see me ...
and how they see me ain't none
of my business.
So my next message has to
reintroduce myself to each
who has ears to hear ...
and call us to greater levels
of relationship, LEarning,
thinking, leadership,
and direct, strategic
action ...
... then I'll tell 'em ...
[VERSE 4]
(back to original beat ...)
freedom of speech
means come correct
be quick to listen
and respect
cast your vote
but then elect
a manner that
is circumspect
know your foe
self-protect
communicate
outside your sect
crack the code
then detect
investigate
and inspect
redeem the time
then collect
initiate
then select
participate
and interject
ideas produced
from intellect
analyses
that dissect
consider cause
and effect
influence
and affect
grow, consider
and reflect
'cause The Messenger
has to listen to LEarn.
[PROLOGUE]
I'm on a mission
to pursue change
through wisdom earned
from lessons learned ...
... and through relationships
built by tough conversations
where my job is both
to share my truth
and my peace ...
... to help me learn
how to get
out of my own way ...
... then get better
at helping somebody
to help somebody.
This journey has taught me
that these conversations
will accomplish nothing
if they don't change me
... by moving me to greater
depths of
acceptance
and affirmation ...
... and greater heights of
accountability
and authority.
Selah.
About Derrick Brown (Principal Consultant)
I am Keisha's husband, and Hannah's father.
My *other* passion is empowering people via methods that balance skill & will, analysis & synthesis, ideas & execution, and activity & achievement.
I am the product of my mentoring relationships, peacemaking (and peacekeeping), and problem-solving ability.
I am a publisher, filmmaker, executive coach & registered mediator with engineering degrees from Clemson and Georgia Tech.
My education began when I finished school.
After school, I enrolled in a lifelong curriculum that includes the following classes ...
- ministry (serving people)
- entrepreneurship (developing solutions that serve people)
- stewardship (taking care of relationships, possessions, talents, body, mind, and time)
- literacy (reading & writing skills)
- numeracy (math skills)
- language (communication skills)
- self-expression (sharing "who you are")
- self-identity (knowing "who you are")
- analysis & synthesis (solving problems & sharing solutions)
KnowledgeBase is a ministry that has evolved from wisdom earned through lessons learned.
I want to share this wisdom to build teams of "triple threat" fellows - mentors, mediators, and problem solvers.
We will collaborate in simple, powerful ways that allow us to help people.
I now know that power is work done efficiently (with wise and skillful use of resources, interests, communication, and expertise).
